Harvest of Hope: Thanksgiving Meal Collection
The Dublin Food Pantry is now preparing for its annual Harvest of Hope food collection drive. This will provide over 350 families with all of the traditional fare necessary for a home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner. Parishioners can participate in one of two ways:
Option One: Provide an entire Thanksgiving dinner
The Social Action Committee and Knights of Columbus invite parishioners to donate the ingredients for an entire Thanksgiving meal (no cooking is necessary) for a family in need. The food will be delivered by the Knights of Columbus directly to the homes of families served by the Dublin Food Pantry on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We have arranged with the Food Pantry to deliver approximately 120 meals this year, which will allow them to keep more food on their shelves through the winter months. Parishioners would provide everything from the list below in a sturdy box (approximate cost of the entire meal is $50) to be dropped off in the St. Brigid parking lot on Sunday November 24 between 1:30 and 2:00. Volunteers will unload the box from your vehicle and reload it into the driver vehicle for immediate delivery.
The items to be provided are: $15 store gift card which will enable the family to purchase the meat or fish item of choice, boxed potatoes, canned or boxed gravy (NO GLASS PLEASE), boxed stuffing, canned corn, canned green beans, assorted fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges), frozen pumpkin pie, reddi whip and rolls. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE FROM A FROZEN TURKEY BREAST TO A STORE GIFT CARD DUE TO FOOD SAFETY ISSUES.
Sign up genius has been set up for parishioners to sign up for this option. The link can be found at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0E4DACAE2AA57-stbrigid1
Alternative drop off arrangements can be made by contacting Karen at the email or phone number below.
Option Two: Provide boxed potatoes and gravy
If you would prefer to donate on a smaller scale, the St. Brigid Social Action Committee invites parishioners to donate any boxed potatoes (i.e., mashed, au gratin, scalloped etc.) and packaged/canned gravy (NO GLASS PLEASE) for inclusion in the remainder of the Thanksgiving meals provided to client families of the Food Pantry. Collection of the donations will be before all Masses on November 9-10 and November 16-17. Please deliver the donated food to Hendricks Hall and place the items in the designated boxes. Donations can also be placed in the Collection Closet in Hendricks Hall during the week.
