At the time of death, surviving family members are often at a loss as to how to begin to plan the funeral for their loved one.

In cases where the family would like to include a eulogy, a member of the family should discuss this during the funeral planning process. The best place for a eulogy is at the Vigil or Wake Prayer Service on the day or evening before the funeral. If a eulogy is to be given at the funeral Mass, it will follow Holy Communion. A eulogy should be no more than one typed page. It should concentrate upon the life of the loved one, highlighting the deceased virtues and qualities. Good taste and good humor are appropriate.
