Knights of Columbus Overview

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization, founded in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut.

This was a lay program established to unite Catholic men, and to prevent them from entering antithetical secret societies.  Since then, the Knights of Columbus has grown from one council to more than 15,000 worldwide, providing financial aid and mutual assistance to Catholic families and their communities.

Support for Church – considered the “Strong Right Arm of the Church” at the local level, helping with church activities, sponsoring events, and providing financial support for seminarians and religious vocations.

Financial Services –  offer members, wives, widows, and children access to high-quality affordable insurance, long-term care, and investments.

Patriotism and Defense of Human Life – promote patriotism while actively protecting human rights and the dignity of life.

Public Relations – publishes Catholic news information, and their color guards often represent the order at church and other civic events.
