Bringing The Mantle to Uganda

Deacon Godfrey was assigned to our parish two years ago when he was a seminarian. He is now a Deacon and will be returning to his home country of Uganda to be ordained to the priesthood in August. Deacon Godfrey shared that he encountered Jesus as a young person in Uganda and was most interested about The Mantle, our youth ministry at St Brigid. The more he saw, the more he became convinced that The Mantle was exactly the kind of youth ministry program he wanted to bring back home. He asked Fr Black if he could discuss with Ellie Dills, our Youth Minister, and together they devised a plan to take The Mantle to Uganda.

Deacon Godfrey has invited Fr Fox, Ellie and her husband, Otis, to Uganda to help plant the seed of a sister program in his new parish. With his Bishop’s approval, our St Brigid team will travel to Uganda in late August to meet the people who have already committed to help. The mission of The Mantle is to lead high school youth and their parents to encounter Christ and to equip them to live as life-long disciples. We do this by offering opportunities for youth to connect with Catholic peers, deepen their Catholic faith through leadership formation, prayer and fellowship, service opportunities, and select special events throughout the year. We believe our model can be replicated anywhere in the world and are excited to be able to unite young people from different cultures and show them the beauty of the universal Church.

The trip is planned for August 21-September 4. Our budget is $15,000 and includes travel expenses plus small gifts to our host families and Mantle-Uganda team members. Any funds raised in excess of our goal will be donated to the Deacon Godfrey’s new parish in support of their youth ministry program. Fr Fox, Ellie and Otis are thrilled for the opportunity to spread The Mantle of St Brigid to Africa. We humbly ask for your support on behalf of Deacon Godfrey. He has been a wonderful addition to our parish and will be missed. This could be a wonderful and novel way for us to stay connected to him.

Carry the Mantle

Hello everyone,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your unwavering support of the Mantle program in Uganda. This program holds a profound significance for me, and I am confident that it will serve as a powerful tool for bringing many young individuals to the faith.

Your prayers have been a source of strength and inspiration. We continue to offer our prayers for all healthcare professionals in Uganda and all stakeholders who are diligently working to mitigate the Ebola outbreak. We fervently hope that this health crisis will be resolved promptly.

Please know of my prayers, and I humbly request your continued prayers.

In Christ,
Deacon Godfrey Ssebikyu
