Update from Father Black

Dear St. Brigid of Kildare Parishioners,

I am writing to explain my limited activities recently in the parish. I’ve had some health issues and have learned enough that I now feel comfortable sharing what I know. Several weeks ago my doctor ordered a stress test which indicated I should consult with a cardiologist. This resulted in a further test which showed some blockage around my heart. Some of you may be aware of the procedure in which a surgeon places a stent in the artery to open the blockage. Unfortunately, the placement of the blockage will not allow this. The likely treatment will be bypass surgery. I am scheduled to see the surgeon on December 21. He will then share with me the path forward. In the meantime, I will continue to limit my activity to a couple of Masses a week and very limited time in the office. Any communication may come to the office staff, but I will not be taking in-person appointments during this time. I am feeling well, and the cardiologist said that my heart is functioning well. It is just the blockage that needs to be taken care of. I am very grateful to Fr. Lynch, our deacons, and wonderful staff for taking care of me and many of my parish duties. I also very much appreciate Msgr. Hendricks and his willingness to fill in when needed. I am on a particular diet, so food is being provided. I guess I will have to pass on all the Christmas goodies, at least this year! I mainly need your prayers and understanding over these coming weeks. Once I know the surgery and recovery timeline, I will share it with you.

May the Peace of this Advent Season fill your homes with Joy!
