Welcome Father Tyler Carter

Dear Parishioners of St. Brigid of Kildare Parish,

My name is Fr. Tyler Carter, and I’ll be joining you as a parochial vicar in July. I was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Columbus last year, along with Fr. Fox, so I’m still a fairly new priest. I was born and raised in Columbus, and I’m the youngest of two children. I was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s in Columbus before my ordination, and I’m an alumnus of Bishop Watterson High School (Go Eagles!). After graduating from Watterson in 2015, I entered seminary at the Pontifical College Josephinum and graduated in 2019 with a B.A. in Philosophy, and a Master of Divinity in 2024. I spent my first year of priestly ministry as parochial vicar of St. Matthew the Apostle in Gahanna.

I’m looking forward to joining you in Dublin, and to getting to know each of you as time goes on. In addition to my ministry at St. Brigid, I will continue as the Administrator of Holy Resurrection Melkite Catholic Parish in Columbus. The Melkite Catholic Church is one of the 24 autonomous churches that make up the Catholic Church, alongside the Latin (Roman Catholic) church and 22 other Eastern churches. Melkites are Byzantine-rite Catholics who trace their roots to the early Christians in Antioch (Syria), where the term “Christian” was first used, and where St. Peter established Christianity before continuing his ministry in Rome.

Due to my assignment at Holy Resurrection, while I will be present at St. Brigid throughout the week, on Sundays I will primarily be present at Holy Resurrection to hear confessions, lead Orthros (morning prayer), and to celebrate the Divine Liturgy (Mass). This means that on the weekend you’ll mainly see me at the 5 p.m. Vigil Mass or the 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. However, I plan to be around the parish each week and to engage in the life and events of our parish community.

Thank you in advance for your kind welcome. Please pray for me as I prepare to join you in July, and be assured of my prayers for each of you daily. May God bless you all, and I look forward to seeing you very soon.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Fr. T. A. Carter

Parochial Vicar
